Towfish Camera

Non-Destructive Video Transects

Unlike the traditional towed sledges, our hydrodynamic Towfish Camera permits visual data collection along smooth transects at depths of up to 110 meters - without damaging the seabed or disturbing its wildlife.

By maintaining its position above the seabed, this solution permits non-destructive surveys even in challenging environments (eg. boulder fields and scour protection zones) or where fragile or portected habitats are involved. Deployed with a 360 degree full HD colour dome camera and dimmable lights, our operators recieve a live video feed from the safety of the vessel and, in addition to controlling the Towfish depth, are able to adjust the camera's orientation and zoom to inspect features of interest. Data from these surveys can be used to classify habitats, identify seabed features and monitor colonisation and succession associated with introduced marine infrastructure.
